One Room Challenge Week 2 // Transformation Though Paint

Warning, there is not a lot of pretty in this post. I am finally on the back half of my home studio renovation, but for several weeks, it got worse, and it was pretty bad to begin with, before it got better. We are on week 2 of the One Room Challenge, the 6 week challenge to execute and document the transformation of a space. Week 1 I usually share my inspiration, my plan and the before images, week 2 is when you have nothing pretty to show. This time around is no different than the others. Today I’m talking about how I’m COMPLETELY updating this space using less than $200 of paint.

Check out these other spaces I completely transformed with paint: my living room basement // my sun room // mom’s kitchen // garage turned studio // study

One Room Challenge - Studio Transformation

It’s no secret that paint can change EVERYTHING. Just a fresh coat of white paint on dingy walls can make a world of difference. In this case I went all white everything, actually my favorite shade, Polar Bear by Behr. I started with the closet, and gave a fresh coat in there, more on that next week. Then I removed the drop ceiling and sprayed the ceiling with my Wagner 4300 paint sprayer. I followed the same process for removing the drop ceiling in my basement living room last One Room Challenge and detailed the project in this post. If you are thinking of doing the same, it’s a lot of work. You have to cover EVERYTHING, and it’s quite tedious, but it is totally transformative!

The photo below is what it looked like as I cleared the closet to paint.

My brother was supposed to come help replace the can lights, which were being held up by the drop ceiling, the day the world came to a screeching halt. I had to face my fears and I did it all on my own!!

Here is the view once the walls and ceiling were painted. Starting to feel those industrial vibes! Currently I am working on painting the floor. As I removed the carpet and tack strips we were left with chips in the concrete all around the edges. I had to patch those and am using Rust-oleum Rocksolid Home in Steam Gray to give the floor new life!

What’s still left to do:

  • organize the closet

  • recover new (vintage) office chairs

  • finish painting floors

  • DIY art

  • hang new pendent light

  • style

Don’t forget to check out the other amazing transformations here!
